During my last semester at VCU, I interned at a fun little start-up company called Hatchify. When I wasn't participating in Nerf gun wars or coffee chug offs, I was writing content articles for their website. This ranged from sales automation to work culture to infographics. If you asked me what automation meant at the start of my internship, I would have looked at you like you had three heads. However, the learning curve was brief and I was able to produce content that resonated with Hatchify's audience in no time.

The Night and Day of Automation

Behind every company is an entire world of moving parts. But the right tools are needed to make sure all the nuts and bolts are working properly. Don’t worry, such tools already exist: they’re called sales and marketing automation.

Why Micromanaging Sucks

Michael Scott. Also known as World’s Best Boss, according to his mug. We love him just as much as we hate him. And so does Dunder Mifflin Scranton. Thanks to Michael, they hardly get work done. But is that entirely true?

SCL,MARKETING'S NEWEST ACRONYM

We live in a day and age where people are being replaced by technology. This is a trend that won’t stop any time soon. And while this can make businesses operate faster, there needs to be a balance between gadgets and people. There needs to be brains behind the madness.

sales & marketing alignment

Sales and marketing teams have been in a rivalry that’s as old as time itself. Okay, that’s not entirely true. But alignment doesn’t come naturally to these two. Just like getting along didn’t come naturally to step brothers Brennan Huff and Dale Doback.

Automation: our specialty

Every business has a different, unique customer journey. They key word here is different- no company has the same exact approach. Whatever they have implemented is a reflection of how they run things.

AUTOMATION ISN'T THE BAD GUY

Automation can be really, really scary. That's because it's like stepping into complete darkness. But it's all about what you make of this darkness. If this scares you, you'll probably want to turn right back around and never give automation a chance.

PICKING THE RIGHT CRM FOR YOUR BUSINESS

So you decided to integrate Customer Relationship Management, CRM for short. Let me just start by saying great job. Automation can seem scary, but that’s only if you treat it that way.

HOW TO TALK THE TALK: B2B VERSUS B2C

When you answer a phone call at work, you never know who’s going to be on the other line. This doesn’t change the fact that you’re still talking to a human being. Everyone knows that. But it does help knowing who they are and what they stand for.

INTERVIEW IN THE COOP: JOHNNY BURNS

Team leader Johnny Burns took a break from his busy day to talk about the framed pig on his wall, why he really wears khaki pants, and how he stays motivated here at Hatchify.

SCIENCE OF SALES

The world of sales is changing, and so is the way we approach customers. Old tactics, such as generic emails and phone calls, do not work anymore. That’s because the modern consumer is smart. They’re more aware of their surroundings and are more receptive to personalization.
